Chapter 7 Communication

  • Communication in the third step in the public relations process.
  • Communication is sometimes referred to as execution.
  • For communication to work and be successful there is a need for interaction between a communicator and a recipient.
  • Four main elements of the communication model is the sender, message, channel, and receiver.  Feedback has now been added as the fifth element.
  • Communicating effectively happens when using effective language and having clarity.
  • When delivering messages  clarity and speech is important. Avoid jargon, cliches, euphemisms and discriminatory language.

Notes and reading are from the textbook  Public Relations Strategies and Tactics, Ninth Edition by Dennis L. Wilcox and Glen T. Cameron.
